Why Community Wind

What's so great about community wind?  While there are many benefits to wind energy, only wind energy paired with a local ownership model provides the maximum benefit to a community.

True Community Ownership

Most wind energy projects simply lease land from landowners, send them a yearly payment, and that's that.  Lake Country Wind Energy takes this a step further.  Instead of a traditional lease payment, landowners have the opportunity to literally buy a part of the project.  They then receive a share of the profits.  Make an investment in your community!  Under this local ownership model, more of the profits stay in Meeker and Kandiyohi counties.

Many traditional developers will tell you that their wind developments benefit landowners by providing them with royalty or lease payments. While this does provide some benefit to the community, under this model, there is no chance for ownership or local participation. This is not how Lake Country Wind Energy operates. As a community-based company,

Your Project

Lake Country Wind Energy was founded by a group of landowners and farmers from Kandiyohi and Meeker counties.  The project has an advisory board made up of these same local landowners.  The advisory board exists to hear the input from our community.  We give landowners the opportunity to influence and take ownership interest in a project. Lake Country encourages community involvement, fostering camaraderie and growth within the neighborhood.
