
The Lake Country Energy Project is located in Kandiyohi and Meeker Counties, Minnesota. The project area lies within the Minnesota River Prairie subsection of the Prairie Parkland Province ecological region. The land, which is mostly cropland, appears suitable for wind farm development. The vast majority of the area is privately owned.
-Potential output capacity up to an aggregate of 340 MW (megawatts)
-Provides enough energy to generate electricity to up to 92,000 homes each year
-Could displace more than one million tons of CO2-equivalent emissions annually, which is equivalent to taking over 200,000 vehicles off the road
Local participation and ownership are fundamental to Lake Country Wind Energy, LLC. The community-based approach encourages cooperation amongst a large contingent of local farmers and agricultural producers. The goal of the ownership structure is to provide landowners the ability to participate in an energy project that directly benefits their local communities.
Commercial operation is scheduled to begin between 2012 and 2013.
